On Monday, he discussed preparations for the election day and the progress of early voting during a conference call with Laura Matjosaityte, chair of the Central Electoral Commission, and Marija Saraite, head the White Gloves independent non-governmental organization.

The conversation focused on the ongoing early voting, possible violations and their prevention. The president was also interested in what additional measures are being taken due to the pandemic and how preparations were the main election day on Sunday are going on, the presidential office said.

"It is essential to ensure that the election take splace smoothly and citizen could use their right to vote," the president said.

Nauseda also paid attention to the ongoing sluggish voter registration among people self-isolating because of their coronavirus infection or risky contact with infected people. The head of state wanted to know if all measures had been taken to ensure that self-isolating people received information on the possibility to vote at home in time.

A new parliament in Lithuania will be elected on October 11. Early voting is taking place from Monday through Thursday.
