The MP and deputy parliament speaker said on Monday he decided to stand as a candidate in the election of the Labour Party’s new chairperson.

Mazuronis believes that debates about the party’s future vision should begin as soon as possible and that the party needs to operate as a strong team, focus on a wide range of issues and, instead of creating enemies, should offer ideas on how to solve the issues.

According to the MP, it was not a secret to anyone that the party recently experienced challenging times and is now at the crossroads of choice after the unexpected resignation of Uspaskikh, the party’s leader and founder.

The choice, Mazuronis says, is either to look bewilderedly at what is happening around and slowly disappear from the political map, or to unite and form an energetic and driven team in an attempt to turn a new page in the party’s history “that will be written differently”.

According to him, it is obvious that the Labour Party will not have another charismatic leader like Uspaskikh and thus it should focus on a strong team.

“Whether we like it or not, from now on every one of us will be leaders. Leaders whose input and work will determine much” added Mazuronis.

As reported, Uspaskikh resigned as the Labour Party’s chair in mid-June.

Afterwards, MP Viktoras Fiodorovas, the head of its political group in parliament, was appointed as the acting chair.
