More deaths and fewer births regirstered in April

More people died and fewer people were born in Lithuania last month, compared to the same period last year, according to the latest demographic figures from the country's statistic service, Statistics Lithuania.

The number of deaths went up by one-tenth to 3,632, from 3,323 in April 2020.

Meanwhile, the number of births decreased by 7 percent: to 1,847, from 1,986.

Lithuania's population shrank by 2,157 people year-on-year to 2,785,502 in April, which marked the sixth consecutive month of population decrease.

The number of emigrants trebled to 3,150 people, from 1,024 in April 2020. Meanwhile, the number of immigrants climbed to 2,778, from 2,746.
