Migration Department issued record number of temporary residence permits in 2022

The Migration Department has reported that last year legal migration processes in Lithuania were influenced the most by the complicated geopolitical situation in the region and by growing labour migration. In 2022, a record amount of temporary residence permits was issued in Lithuania.

The number of foreigners residing in Lithuania exceeded 100,000 at the beginning of 2022 and soared to 189,000 in early 2023. The spike was caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as refugees fled the country.
