Maskoliunas, who until now served as special attaché to the Netherlands at the Police Department's International Cooperation Board, was selected out of two candidates for the post, it said.
Maskoliunas started his career in the Panevezys Police, where he held various positions, including that of head of the Immunity Division and of the Intelligence Board. He has in the past worked in the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau.
Maskoliunas graduated from the Lithuanian University of Law, majoring in law and police activities.
He will succeed Rolandas Kiskis, who has stepped down as head of the Criminal Police Bureau to take his new job as director of the Lithuanian Financial Crime Investigation Service.
