"We are in fact wrapping up with the first doze for teachers and we are starting fairly actively to vaccinate the 80+ age group. Vaccination of these people should gain pace next week and we see signs already that we will be able to move forward to those over 75 and their vaccination," Zivile Simonaityte told a press conference on Friday.

In her words, based on the existing data, out of around 30,000 teachers and other education workers who were supposed to be immunized at the stage, almost 28,000 people have been vaccinated.

"Based on the calculation of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, the group of teachers who should be vaccinated at this stage (…) includes some 30,000 people. As of yesterday, out of this group some 28,000 teachers had been vaccinated. It means that teachers are really willing to get the jab, see the meaning and benefit of it and realize that that vaccines are goods," she said.

A total of 113,208 people have received their first coronavirus vaccine shots in Lithuania so far and 63,281 have been given the second jab, according to the latest figures from the country's statistics service.
