Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte is nominating her as Lithuania's next ECA member at the Cabinet meeting on Thursday.

If approved, the conservative MP will succeed Rimantas Sadzius, whose term of office as Lithuania's ECA member expired in May.

Andrikiene, a signatory of Lithuania's 1990 Independence Act, holds a PhD in social sciences and a degree in economics and mathematics from Vilnius University. She served three terms as a member of the European Parliament. She held the posts of Lithuania's minister of European affairs and of industry and trade between 1996 and 1998, following several terms as a member of the Seimas.

The media reported earlier that Mykolas Majauskas, the conservative chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance, and Dalius Zalimas, a former president of the Constitutional Court, had been considered as possible successors to Sadzius.

Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte said that the search for a candidate was taking more than expected because of a failure to reach an agreement with President Gitanas Nauseda's office.

The nomination of a Lithuanian representative to the ECA has to be approved by the government, the Seimas and the president.

The ECA's members are appointed by the Council of the EU for a six-year renewable term, after consultation with the European Parliament.

The Luxembourg-based court's mission is to supervise and audit the EU's budget in terms of both revenue and spending. It also ensures that EU funds are spent properly and in accordance with the rules and makes recommendations to the European Commission and national governments.
