"This Wednesday, the government plans to take a decision on the lifting of the extreme situation regime related to the COVID situation and shifting [...] prevention and treatment of this disease to general immunoprophylaxis and treatment algorithms," she told the parliament.

Health Minister Arunas Dulkys told BNS that he would suggest lifting the legal regime as of May 1, leaving in place the usual safety recommendations.

The extreme situation regime has remained in effect without interruption for around two years.

Most of the restrictions have now been lifted, except for the requirement to wear face masks in medical and care facilities and on public transport. The isolation period for people who test positive for COVID-19 has been shortened to five days, and those who have had contact with an infected person are no longer required to self-isolate.

Lithuania has recorded 453 new coronavirus infections and three deaths from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, official statistics showed on Tuesday morning.

The 14-day primary infection rate has fallen further to 589.6 per 100,000 people, with the seven-day percentage of positive tests down to 21.5 percent.
