Lithuania, however, is not following Latvia's suit yet and is not banning flights from the United Kingdom.

The Transport Ministry says checks will be made as to whether people have filled in the special questionnaires of the National Public Health Center, as well travelers' COVID-19 test results and when they were carried out will be checked at checkpoints where specialists from the State Border Guard Service, the NPHC and the airport and seaport terminals will work.

As preparations are being made for stepped-up controls, the flows of incoming people will be reorganized at Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga Airports as documents and COVID-19 test results of all incoming people will be checked within the airports' arrival areas after they take their luggage.

Last week, Latvia decided to halt all flights from the UK, Ireland and Portugal to prevent dangerous mutated coronavirus variants from entering the country.

Lithuanian Transport Minister Marius Skuodis says the Lithuanian government has decided not to follow in Latvia's steps, taking into account the number of travelers and the fact that the ban could be evaded through connecting flights.
