Lithuania records 63 new Delta coronavirus cases

Lithuania has recorded 63 new cases of the worrisome Delta coronavirus variant, first detected in India, this week, the country's National Public Health Surveillance Laboratory said on Thursday.

Also, seven new cases of the Alpha strain, first detected in the UK.

The Delta variant was found in 38 out of 47 samples tested at the laboratory of Vilnius University's Life Sciences Center, and another 25 were found in 26 samples tested by the laboratory of Kaunas Clinics.

A total of 10,287 cases of the Alpha variant, 13 cases of the Beta variant, 236 cases of the B.1.620 variant, eight cases of the Gamma variant have been found in 14,465 samples in Lithuania as part of the genome sequencing testing project coordinated the NPHSL.
