Lithuania condemns military coup in Myanmar

Lithuania condemned the recent military coup in Myanmar at the United Nations Human Rights Council on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

"Lithuania strongly condemned the military coup in Myanmar and unlawful detention of democratically elected political leaders and civil activists," the statement reads.

Together with EU states and like-minded countries, Lithuania called on Myanmar's military leadership to end the emergency situation and hand over power back to the legitimate government, as well as to release all detainees and fully respect and defend human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law.

Moreover, Lithuania called on Myanmar to fully cooperate with the UN human rights experts, including the special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar.
