During the meeting, the foreign ministers of Lithuania and Oman discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation, global consequences of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, developments in the Middle East region and the European Union’s focus on a strategic partnership with the Gulf region. The foreign minister also highlighted Oman’s mediatory efforts to promote regional security and stability, and welcomed the friendly relationship between Lithuania and Oman.
“Oman, also known as the Switzerland of the Gulf region, not only helps to address emerging crises and mediate conflicts, but is also capable of mobilising partners in the region for common goals. The interest of the EU lies also in the integration and stability of the Gulf region. We wish to cooperate with the countries in economic, human potential, energy, climate change and other areas. It is equally important that these states actively contribute to the effort to end Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and help to solve food security problems that will inevitably arise in the Middle East and North African region,” Landsbergis said.
The foreign minister also noted that Lithuania and Oman had similar population sizes and aimed at diversifying their economies, ensuring sustainable economic growth. Thus, the countries believe there are opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in the fields of information technology, tourism, transport, etc.
During his visit to Lithuania, the foreign minister of Oman will be awarded the Cross of Commander of the Order for Merits to Lithuania.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Oman.
