Interior Minister proposes tightening citizenship and immigration policies

The Ministry of the Interior proposes tightening immigration and citizenship policies. It has drafted amendments to regulations regarding the issuance of residence permits in Lithuania. Minister of the Interior Agnė Bilotaitė says immigration and citizenship regulations must be tightened to safeguard Lithuania against individuals that might pose a threat to national security.

The changes will require some foreigners to submit additional documents or information when applying for a visa or a residence permit. Failure to provide the required information or submission of false data will help the Migration Department to assess the risk of illegal migration more effectively.
