She told a press conference on Friday that services identify threats and members of the public should feel safe.

"I would like to assure everyone, our society, that our institutions do their job professionally. All persons are identified and necessary measures are taken and processed take place. We should definitely not cause any panic as our institutions assess all risk and take all necessary action, if needed, to protect our society," Bilotaite said.

In her words, institutions respond according to set algorithms "and, if needed, those persons are sent out or are subjected to other security measures for the society to be protected".

Speaking earlier with the delfi.lt news website, Laurynas Kasciunas, the CNSD chairman, said it had been determined that "several dozen such persons who entered Lithuania as illegal migrants and we have information about already, they are linked to one or another terrorist organization or group".

In his words, since July when an extreme situation was declared in Lithuania, four people have been sent out of the country due to their links with terrorism, and more than ten are being watched as no decisions in their cases have been made yet.

Nearly 4,200 migrants, mostly Iraqi citizens, have crossed into Lithuania from Belarus illegally so far this year. Vilnius accuses the Minsk regime of orchestrating the unprecedented migration influx, calling it "hybrid aggression", and introduced push-backs in early August.
