The poll, conducted by Norstat between November 3 and 24 and published by Lrt.lt on Tuesday, found that 49 percent of respondents backed Lithuania's policy toward Belarus, while 37 percent viewed it unfavourably. Another 15 percent said they had no opinion on the matter.

Lithuania's policy toward China and Taiwan was supported by 34 percent of respondents and opposed by 41 percent. Another 26 percent had no opinion.

Norstat polled 1,000 adults, with almost 800 of them interviewed by phone and the rest online.

Almost 4,200 irregular migrants have crossed into Lithuania from Belarus illegally so far this year. Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of orchestrating the unprecedented migration influx, calling it "hybrid aggression".

China has been angered by Lithuania's decision to allow Taipei to use "Taiwanese" for the name of its representative office in Vilnius.
