Government OKs coronavirus testing in Vilnius as part of pilot school project

The Lithuanian government agreed on Friday to preventively test families and workers from the coronavirus as part of resumption of in-person education at Vilnius school.

Ministers backed plans by the Vilnius authorities to carry out preventive tests of workers of Vilnius Duke Gediminas Progymnasium as well as the households of its primary schoolchildren in two selected weeks in February and March.

Contact workers of selected municipal enterprises will also be tested.

Voluntary tests will be carried out every four to seven days, and samples of cohabitating people will also be tested.

Vilnius City Municipality said earlier that the pilot project would be carried out in those primary classes where communities would agree to undergo testing.

After a week of classes, children will have a break and that time will be used to monitor whether the virus will not spread in families.
