The MP told that BNS after a meeting of the party's presidium on Tuesday.

"I was confirmed as interim chairman. We will convene a council, a convention within a couple of months. We will have the exact dates soon", Fiodorovas said, adding that the party's convention should elect a new leader.

Uspaskich announced his decision to step down as the party's leader on Tuesday, saying that wanted to "provide a new impetus for the party, new ideas, and youthfulness".

The founder of the Labor Party, Uspaskich has led the party intermittently since 2003. He was last elected to lead the party in 2018 and re-elected in November, 2021.

Having some 10,000 members, the Labor Party has nine seats in the Seimas.
