Ex-PM will vote against compensations for confiscated Jewish property

MP Saulius Skvernelis, former prime minister, now leader of the party Democrats For Lithuania, vows that his political group will vote against the proposal to pay compensations to Jews for property confiscated when Lithuania was occupied by the totalitarian Nazi and Soviet regimes in the 20th century.

He says the matter had been settled and it is unclear why the issue is being raised once more. Meanwhile, incumbent Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė says Skvernelis must be forgetting that at the end of his term of office in 2020 it was he who established a special working group to examine the issue of private Jewish property.
