“In the third year the president indeed consolidated his positions, especially in foreign politics, and now, together with representatives of the ruling majority, is solidifying Lithuania in the area of foreign politics,” Čmilytė-Nielsen said in an interview for the radio station Žinių Radijas on Wednesday.

“I assess [the president’s third year in office] positively and in the future wish for more wise decisions and more cooperation with the Seimas,” she added.

According to the parliament speaker, in the face of external threats faced by Lithuania, relationships between the ruling coalition and President Nausėda are “fairly good” and cooperation is constructive.
“On certain issues, naturally, opinions sometimes differ, this is unavoidable in politics and this should not be avoided. However, cooperation with the president is constructive, is good,” stressed the speaker, expressing hope this would continue to be the case.

According to the Liberal Movement’s leader, earlier disagreements between the president and Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė on who should represent Lithuania at the European Council have been resolved and top officials are constantly sharing information.

“It is important that these ties and cooperation would continue without hindrance. Currently, I think this is the case,” stated the speaker.

Tuesday marked three years since the inauguration of President Gitanas Nausėda on 12 July 2019.
