The government's emergency commission "is working intensively" and considering several possible options, according to Rustamas Liubajevas.

"We, border guards, are getting ready for that," he told LRT Radio, adding that possible measures include "certain controls at airports, and possibly seaports".

Border guards could assist the National Public Health Center (NPHC) in checking if travelers are following the requirements to show coronavirus test results on arrival in Lithuania and register on the NPHC website before arrival, according to the commander.

"I think these decisions will be made next week if the situation in other countries doesn't improve," he said.

Liubajevas said additional controls are likely to be put in place at the country's internal borders, too, but a complete closure is not being considered, at least for now.
