The five-ton military vehicles, manufactured by Germany's Daimler Trucks AG, were purchased as part of the continued modernization of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the renewal of its truck fleet, it said in a press release.

The Unimog trucks were delivered as a continuation of the Lithuanian Armed Forces' contract signed in 2015 with Daimler Trucks AG jointly with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).

The NATO agency can amass the requests from across the Alliance and carry out larger-scale acquisitions, which helped to significantly reduce the price per truck.

As part of the contract, 340 trucks were handed over to the Lithuanian military earlier and the latest delivery marks an additional order.

The total value of the deal is around 80 million euros.

The Unimog trucks are among the most used vehicles by Lithuanian troops for routine tasks, logistical support and personnel transportation, according to the ministry.

As part of the fleet renewal, the Lithuanian Armed Forces have purchased Zetros 3643 trucks with semi-trailers and AROCS special-purpose trucks for carrying platforms and containers from Daimler Trucks AG in recent years.
