As school-graduation exams and university enrollment took place later this year due to the coronavirus threat, Education, Science and Port Minister Algirdas Monkevicius advised higher schools to move the start of the new academic year to September 14. The final decision was made by higher schools.

Figures from the Association of Lithuanian Higher Education Institutions (LAMA BPO) show that some 20,269 first-year students will start studying this year, which is almost one thousand more than last year. 11,708 of them will study at universities, and further 8,561 will go to colleges.
