"Kaunas Regional Prosecutor's Office is currently carrying out 17 pre-trial investigations, including 16 on the cause of death and another one on negligent deprivation of live," prosecutor Aukse Lipkeviciene from Kaunas Regional Prosecutor's Office told journalists in Tuesday.
In her words, 16 people are dead and two are in intensive care.
All these pre-trial investigation were launched in response to information from local medical establishments on people who were found dead in one Kaunas area last month or died shortly after being taken to hospital, having consumed home-made alcohol.
One female suspect has been detained, suspected of negligent deprivation of life, after a man in her neighborhood died of alcohol poisoning.
Another person was also suspected of illegal distribution of alcohol but he died of poisoning on Monday night.
