Number of fires hits 17-year lows

The number of fires that broke out in Lithuania in the first half of 2020 fell to 5,190, from 7,739 in the same period last year, and was the lowest in the past 17 years, the Fire and Rescue Department (PAGD) reported on Friday.

Fires claimed the lives of 52 people, including two minors, between January and June, the department said.

The death toll decreased by approximately one-tenth as compared to the five-year average for the period (57).
