The present cold period (from the end of October until now) in Lithuania is characterised by below-average sunshine, while this January was a record breaker with very high average monthly temperatures, but also the shortest duration of sunshine across the country, the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service said.

New records for the minimum duration of sunshine were observed at 5 meteorological stations in January as the average duration of sunshine in Lithuania was just 35% of the January norm.
