Klaipeda port expects this season's 1st cruise ship in mid-August

Not a single cruise ship has called at the Lithuanian seaport of Klaipeda so far this year due to coronavirus restrictions, but the local tourism industry still expects cruise vessels to bring in large groups of foreign tourists this season, the daily Vakaru Ekspresas reported.

"We are looking forward to August 17 because we have hope that this year's first cruise ship will arrive [on that day]," it quoted Romena Savickiene, director of Klaipeda Tourism and Culture Information Center, as saying.

Before the pandemic, Klaipeda would welcome around 80,000 cruise visitors per season.
