Meiliūnaitė appointed head of State Commission of Lithuanian Language

The new State Commission of the Lithuanian Language will be headed by Violeta Meiliūnaitė, a senior research fellow at the Geolinguistics Centre of the Institute of the Lithuanian Language, the Seimas decided on Thursday.

In a secret ballot, 62 MPs voted in favour of Meiliūnaitė’s nomination, 14 voted against and 5 abstained. The appointment procedure is carried out in accordance with the Law of the State Lithuanian Language Commission.
