Economy and Innovation Minister Ausrine Armonaite underlined that all other stores that are already operating at shopping centers, including those selling food, vet products, animal food, flowers, orthopaedic goods, funeral products, as well as pharmacies and stores having direct outdoor access, will still be able to open on weekends.

Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte said on Wednesday if people's safety "at those major points of attraction" would be ensured, adding that the decision might later be reviewed.

Armonaite said on Wednesday all stores could not be reopened at the same time as people needed testing and preparing.

All reopening trading venues would be required to ensure a space of 50 square meters for one shopper or to serve no more than one person at a time.

Ruta Vainiene, head of the Lithuanian Association of Retail Companies, told BNS on Wednesday she could not understand why shopping center stores could not work on weekends, adding that such a restriction would only increase people's flows on working days.
