Regulator: public electricity supply price might double next year

Chairman of the National Energy Regulatory Council (VERT) Renatas Pocius attended a sitting of the Seimas Committee on Budget and Finance to present electricity and gas price projections for 2023. The Council forecasts that gas prices for household consumers might stand at EUR 4 per cubic metre (m3) of gas, whereas the price of public electricity supply could double.

According to Pocius, the price for gas paid by consumers several times differs from the actual market price. Consumers using gas stoves pay EUR 1.02 per m3 of gas, whereas gas is purchased from a supplier for EUR 3.46 per m3. Meanwhile, consumers pay EUR 0.74 per m3 of gas used for district heating, whereas gas for heating is bought on the market for EUR 3.21 per m3.
