The total number of pension recipients declined by 700, or 0.1 percent, in 2018 from 2017, but their share of the total population remained on an upward trend, Statistics Lithuania said.
In late 2018, old age-related pensions were paid to 671,900 people, a fourth of the population. The number of old-age pension recipients per 1,000 inhabitants rose by one, year-on-year, to 240 people.
Spending on pensions increased by 357 million euros, or 12.6 percent, last year from 2017 to 3.2 billion euros, accounting for 7.1 percent of GDP, according to the preliminary figures.
