"It will include specific technical measures, including the purchase of a helicopter. These are measures that would boost Kaliningrad transit security, and we need around 24 million euros," the minister told BNS by phone from the Kena border checkpoint on Wednesday.

In her words, the helicopter will allow monitoring transit trains throughout their journey through Lithuania.

Also, funding will also be requested to install cameras along the entire railway section from Kena to Kybartai, the minister said.

"We should consider installing cameras along the entire stretch because it is proven to be effective and efficient," Bilotaite said.

The movement of transit trains through the territory of Lithuania is controlled by the State Border Guard Service, and the special transit scheme is carried out in accordance with the conditions and procedures set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Around 100 Russian transit trains pass through Lithuania every month.

Currently, Russian trains arriving in Lithuania undergo thorough checks and their passage, including speed changes, through Lithuania is monitored by special equipment.
