European court upholds EUR 20mn fine for Lithuanian railways

The Court of Justice of the European Union on Thursday fined the Lithuanian railway company (Lietuvos geležinkeliai (LTG)) EUR 20 million for abuse of its dominant position, upholding an earlier ruling by the General Court.

The ruling concerned the illegal dismantling of a 19-kilometre railway line from Mažeikiai to the border with Latvia by LTG in October 2008 after a dispute between LTG and the oil refinery Orlen Lietuva.
