Economist forecasts prices to start decreasing

Chief Economist at Swedbank Nerijus Mačiulis expects prices to start decreasing even though provisional monthly change in consumer prices in January 2023 stood at 0.6%.

The economist stated in a post on Facebook that the latest monthly price increase was influenced by higher electricity, gas and water prices, as well as by greater excise duties on alcohol and tobacco. According to him, if not for these factors, there would have likely been monthly deflation already.
